UNESCO and Mersys announced their cooperation for the organization of online training workshops for teachers in Pakistan and Kazakhstan. Based on the 2020 publication “Ensuring effective distance learning during COVID-19 disruption: guidance for teachers” and jointly developed by the UNESCO Unit for Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education and the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University, it provides tools and methods to deliver efficient distance learning programs to respond to education disruptions and future digital education challenges.

As a part of this initiative first pilots, around 1000 teachers from Kazakhstan and 1000 teachers from Pakistan are planned to be trained in 2022.

MERSYS is deeply honored to start this collaboration with UNESCO to promote distance learning tools and methods to teachers of Pakistan and Kazakhstan. We do believe a true digital transformation of the global education sector is on now on its way for the benefit of millions of learners. Technology will play a major role in achieving 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals n°4 to bring high quality education to everyone. We are thrilled to be part of this journey.” declared Sebastien Condom, MERSYS CEO

COVID-19 education disruptions shed a light on the indispensable role of technologies for the delivery of learning opportunities. Digital technologies have become a social necessity to ensure education as a basic human right, especially in a world experiencing more frequent crises and conflicts. However, digital technologies alone will not provide the solution to perpetual problems in education if teachers don’t have competencies to make effective pedagogical use of technologies. UNESCO has developed a Guidance for teachers on how to design and facilitate effective distance learning. We made it available in multiple languages and have been cooperating with partners to train and support teachers based on their local languages. In this context, UNESCO and Mersys are joining forces to train thousands of teachers on how to leverage digital technologies to support distance learning.” Said Dr Fengchun Miao, Chief Unit for Technology and AI in Education at UNESCO
